Burlington Bees    0

WP – Conley 1-0 / 0.00

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Bryce Conley

(6 IP / 0 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 4 K / Win)

Three Beloit pitchers combined to throw the first minor league no-hitter this season on Thursday. Last year’s 22nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Bryce Conley, made the start for the Snappers and led the way. The 23-year-old was pitching a perfect game through 5 2/3 frames until issuing a walk with two outs in the bottom of the 6th. But that was the only runner Conley would allow, and he exited after striking out 4 over 6 hitless and scoreless innings. LHP Ty Damron, the A’s 15th-round pick in 2016, tossed 2 scoreless frames in relief, and last year’s 15th-round pick, LHP Josh Reagan, got the final three outs in the 9th to notch the save and secure the no-hitter for the Snappers. Shortstop Nick Allen doubled and scored on center fielder Austin Beck‘s ground out in the top of the 1st to give Beloit an early lead, and Beck then tripled and scored on first baseman Miguel Mercedes‘ ground out in the 4th.

With one out, Renato Nunez on first and the Sounds down by two runs in the bottom of the 9th, right fielder Anthony Garcia stepped to the plate and ripped a two-run homer over the right-field wall to tie the game and send the contest to extra innings. Nunez singled twice in the game to extend his hitting streak to six games, while shortstop Melvin Mercedes singled and drove in the Sounds’ only other run of the game on a ground out in the 8th. Starter Trevor Cahill was charged with 3 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks while striking out 7 over 5 2/3 frames. RHP Daniel Gossett struck out 4 over 4 scoreless innings of relief in his first appearance of the season for the Sounds, but RHP Kyle Finnegan allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, in the top of the 11th to take the loss.

The RockHounds ripped three home runs in the game, but it wasn’t enough as RHP Corey Walter endured a rocky start, allowing 9 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer the loss as Midland went down to defeat in the first game of their three-game series at Springfield on Thursday. Second baseman J.P. Sportman and shortstop Eli White each singled and slugged solo shots, while left fielder Tyler Ramirez walked and belted a two-run blast, and first baseman Seth Brown and designated hitter Brett Siddall picked up a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Parker Dunshee

(5 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 4 K / Win)

RHP Parker Dunshee turned in yet another impressive performance by a Ports starting pitcher to help Stockton secure its seventh straight win on Thursday. Last year’s 7th-round draft pick for the A’s allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4 over 5 scoreless frames to pick up the win for the Ports. Dunshee last allowed a run in June of last year in his first professional appearance for the Arizona League A’s. The 23-year-old has since thrown 48 1/3 scoreless frames for Vermont and Stockton. And Stockton’s starting pitchers have now allowed just 2 runs while striking out 51 in 39 2/3 innings over the season’s first eight games. LHP Brandon Marsonek gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Miguel Romero, who’s quickly emerged at Stockton’s stopper, tossed 2 scoreless innings to close things out and pick up his 3rd save for the Ports. First baseman Luke Persico doubled, singled twice and drew a walk, while right fielder Greg Deichmann doubled and drove in 3 runs. Center fielder Dairon Blanco had 2 hits, including a double, and shortstop Kevin Merrell singled, walked and swiped a pair of bases for Stockton.
