Another impressive pitching performance led the Ports to their sixth straight win on Wednesday. Stockton starter Jesus Luzardo no-hit the Quakes through the first four frames and ended up allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 10 over 5 innings of work to earn the victory. And Stockton’s starting pitchers have now allowed just 2 runs while striking out 47 in 34 2/3 innings over the season’s first seven games. RHP Angel Duno got the final three outs in the 9th to notch the save for Stockton. Shortstop Kevin Merrell did most of the offensive damage for the home team on Wednesday. Last year’s second overall draft pick for the A’s, who’s known for his outstanding speed, collected 3 hits, including 2 triples, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports. Left fielder Luis Barrera singled twice and scored a run, while second baseman Nate Mondou singled, walked and drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt, and designated hitter Josh Phegley singled in a run in his second rehab appearance with the Ports.

The Sounds shut out the Cubs for the second straight night on Wednesday. Starter Frankie Montas was solid, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3 over 3 innings of work, while rehabbing RHP Ryan Dull tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief of Montas. RHP Chris Bassitt was outstanding in relief, striking out 6 over 4 shutout frames to earn the win, and RHP Lou Trivino pitched a perfect 9th to close out the 5-hit shutout for the Sounds. Center fielder B.J. Boyd collected 3 hits and drove in a run, while first baseman Slade Heathcott singled, doubled and scored twice. Left fielder Renato Nunez had a pair of hits and a walk, and right fielder Nick Martini singled, walked, stole a base and drove in a run for the Sounds. Meanwhile, infielder Melvin Mercedes was reassigned from the RockHounds to the Sounds, who have been a little short on infielders since Franklin Barreto was recalled by the A’s.

The Snappers were shut out on just one hit in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Catcher Skyler Weber singled in the 4th inning for the sole hit in the loss. Third baseman Jesus Lopez went 0 for 2 with a walk in his first game for Beloit since being added to the roster after J.C. Rodriguez landed on the disabled list. Starter Jean Ruiz was charged with 5 runs in just 2 innings of work to suffer the loss for the Snappers.

Last year’s 9th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Jared Poche, was solid in his first start for the Snappers, allowing just 1 run while striking out 6 over 4 2/3 frames. Last year’s 6th-round pick, LHP Logan Salow, gave up 1 run in 2 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win as the Snappers secured a split of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Left fielder Logan Farrar singled, tripled and drove in a run, while center fielder Mickey McDonald had a pair of hits and also drove home a run, and shortstop Nick Allen and catcher Jordan Devencenzi each singled, walked and scored a run for the Snappers.
