An impressive performance by RHP Jack Perkins enabled Lansing to complete a season-opening, three-game sweep of Great Lakes on Sunday. Last year’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s threw 5 scoreless and hitless innings while striking out 6 and allowing just 1 base runner on a walk in the 2nd inning. RHP Jorge Juan tossed 2 scoreless frames in relief, while LHP Mac Lardner gave up 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings, and RHP Brock Whittlesey got the final out in the 9th to notch the save for Lansing. The A’s top draft pick last year, catcher Daniel Susac, doubled twice, drove in a run and stole a base, while shortstop Max Muncy singled, walked and scored a run, and first baseman Jack Winkler doubled in a run in the 1st for the Lugnuts.

Las Vegas suffered a one-run loss to Oklahoma City in extra innings on Sunday. Right fielder Cody Thomas belted a three-run homer to put the Aviators on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning, while first baseman Dermis Garcia slugged a solo shot in the 3rd. Shortstop Tyler Wade had a pair of hits, stole a base, drew a walk and drove in a run, and center fielder JJ Bleday singled twice and walked for Las Vegas. Starter Hogan Harris tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings before departing after throwing 67 pitches, while LHP Garrett Williams gave up 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief. RHP Garrett Acton gave up 1 run in the 5th to tie the game, and RHP Chad Smith was charged with 1 unearned run in the top of the 10th to suffer the loss for Las Vegas. Meanwhile, MLB.com’s Martin Gallegos has reported that Aviators infielder Kevin Smith is set to join Oakland for Monday’s game against Baltimore.
