Stockton suffered a 10-5 loss to Modesto on opening night, but center fielder Brayan Buelvas impressed for the Ports on Thursday. After struggling with High-A Lansing last season, the 20-year-old Colombian outfielder got off to a hot start in his return to Stockton, belting a home run to put the Ports on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning, while also singling, drawing a walk and swiping a base in the loss. 20-year-old Venezuelan second baseman Jose Escorche singled, walked twice and stole a base, while right fielder Clark Elliott singled, drew a pair of walks, drove in a run and swiped a bag. Designated hitter Colby Thomas had a pair of hits and drove in a run, and shortstop Robert Puason singled and stole a base for Stockton. Starter Yehizon Sanchez allowed 3 runs in 2 innings of work to take the loss, while RHP Wander Guante surrendered 6 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Blaze Pontes notched 3 strikeouts in 2 scoreless frames for Stockton.
