Shortstop Kevin Smith continued his hot start in the Aviators’ home opener on Tuesday. The leadoff hitter reached base 3 times, on a pair of singles and a walk, while also swiping a base, driving in a run and scoring a run, and he’s now hitting .389 with a .476 on-base percentage while also leading the Pacific Coast League with 4 home runs and 11 RBIs. Left fielder JJ Bleday belted his 3rd home run, a solo shot in the 6th inning, and he’s now hit 3 homers in 9 at-bats in his last 2 games for Las Vegas. Catcher Tyler Soderstrom doubled, drew a walk and drove in a pair, while first baseman Dermis Garcia singled and doubled in a run in the bottom of the 9th. Second baseman Tyler Wade singled, walked and stole a base, and center fielder Cal Stevenson drew 3 walks, swiped a pair of bases and scored twice in the losing cause. LHP Hogan Harris got off to a shaky start, issuing 6 walks and allowing 4 runs, 3 earned, while throwing 57 pitches in just 1 2/3 innings of work to suffer the loss for Las Vegas.
