The Lugnuts outlasted the Loons to earn a victory in extra innings on Thursday. Starting pitcher Seth Shuman turned in his third straight strong start for Lansing, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 7 while throwing 6 shutout innings, and he left the game with a one-run lead. Shuman, who was the A’s 6th-round draft pick in 2019, has notched 48 strikeouts over 40 innings this season, and his 1.58 ERA is the best in the league among pitchers who’ve thrown at least 30 innings. RHP Brock Whittlesey gave up the tying run in the bottom of the 7th. Catcher Drew Millas singled, walked twice and drove in a pair, while center fielder Michael Guldberg contributed a pair of hits, drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and drove in a run in the top of the 11th, and designated hitter Lazaro Armenteros singled twice and drove in a pair of runs in the top of the 12th for Lansing. RHP Charles Hall picked up the win despite allowing the tying run twice, once on an earned run in the bottom of the 9th and once on an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th.
