After struggling in his Double-A debut last weekend, 24-year-old Cuban RHP Norge Ruiz turned in a strong start for Midland to help the RockHounds win the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Ruiz allowed just 1 hit over 5 scoreless frames to earn the victory, while RHP J.B. Wendelken got the final four outs for the Hounds to secure his 2nd save of the season. Left fielder Tyler Ramirez singled and slugged a two-run homer, while second baseman J.P. Sportman socked a solo shot, and shortstop Eli White doubled, walked and stole a base to help the Hounds split Saturday’s doubleheader. Meanwhile, reliever Jake Sanchez was reassigned to the RockHounds from the Sounds on Saturday.

Saturday’s game was suspended due to rain with the Sounds up 6-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Starter Brett Anderson allowed 2 runs and struck out 8 over 4 innings of work, while left fielder Renato Nunez and right fielder B.J. Boyd each singled in a pair for the Sounds. The game will resume prior to Sunday’s regularly-scheduled contest.

The RockHounds were shut out on just two hits in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. Shortstop Eli White singled and stole a base, while center fielder Tyler Ramirez singled and walked and ended the day going 3 for 6 with a home run, a walk with a pair of RBIs for the RockHounds, and his batting average on the season now stands at .345. Starter Ben Bracewell allowed 5 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer the loss on Saturday.

Stockton went down to defeat in 11 innings on Saturday. After the Ports had already plated a pair of runs off rehabbing San Jose starter Jeff Samardzija, designated hitter Nate Mondou stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 1st inning and slugged a grand slam to give his team an early 6-0 lead. Stockton starter Matt Milburn then allowed 5 runs over 4 2/3 frames, while RHP Sam Sheehan surrendered the tying run in the bottom of the 9th, and RHP Miguel Romero gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 11th to suffer the loss on Saturday. Third baseman William Toffey collected 3 hits in the game, including a double, and drove in a run, while right fielder Greg Deichmann and left fielder Dairon Blanco had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports, and second baseman Chad Pinder went 1 for 5 with a double in his first rehab appearance for Stockton.
