After coming out on top in the completion of Saturday’s suspended game on Sunday afternoon, the Sounds shut out the Storm Chasers on just 5 hits in Sunday’s regularly-scheduled seven-inning contest. RHP James Naile made the start and threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 7 over 7 scoreless frames to earn his 3rd win while extending his scoreless streak to 17 2/3 innings to start the season. Former A’s farmhand Heath Fillmyer made the start for Omaha and threw 5 1/3 shutout frames before exiting in the bottom of the 6th inning with the game a scoreless tie. Designated hitter Josh Phegley went 0 for 3 in his third rehab game with Nashville, while first baseman Slade Heathcott had 2 hits, including a double, to raise his batting average to .314, but catcher Dustin Garneau had the decisive hit when he singled to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th as the Sounds won in a walk-off. In other news, Renato Nunez‘s time in Nashville came to an end when he was claimed off waivers by Texas on Sunday.

The Sounds prevailed in the completion of Saturday’s suspended game on Sunday afternoon. When Saturday’s contest was halted in the bottom of the 4th inning, the Sounds were up 6-2 and starter Brett Anderson had allowed 2 runs and struck out 8 over 4 innings of work. When play resumed on Sunday, RHP Raul Alcantara took over on the mound and picked up the win despite giving up 4 runs in 3 innings of relief. RHP Simon Castro surrendered 1 run in 2/3 of an inning in his season debut for the Sounds, and RHP Lou Trivino got the final four outs for Nashville to notch the save on Sunday. Second baseman Steve Lombardozzi singled twice, walked twice, scored twice and drove in 3 runs, while right fielder B.J. Boyd singled twice, walked, stole a base and drove in 4. First baseman Slade Heathcott collected 3 hits, including a double, drew a walk and scored twice, and catcher Josh Phegley went 0 for 1 with a walk in his second rehab game with the Sounds.

The RockHounds prevailed in a high-scoring, one-run affair on Sunday. Catcher Sean Murphy delivered the big blow by tagging a tie-breaking home run in the top of the 9th inning for the Hounds. He also walked with the bases loaded to bring home a run and then came around to score in the 3rd and doubled and scored another run in the 7th. Shortstop Eli White homered, doubled and drove in a pair, while third baseman Mikey White singled twice, doubled, drew a walk and drove in 3 runs for the RockHounds. Starter Kyle Friedrichs allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 innings of work and left the game with the lead, but RHP Nolan Blackwood gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game. After Murphy’s home run gave the Hounds the lead in top of the 9th, RHP Jake Sanchez came in and tossed a scoreless bottom of the 9th to record his 1st save for the RockHounds, while Blackwood was awarded the win on Sunday.

Despite getting another strong start from LHP Zack Erwin, Stockton went down to defeat in extra innings for the second straight game on Sunday. Erwin, who threw 6 shutout frames in his first start, allowed just 1 run over 7 innings of work on Sunday and left the game with a two-run lead. But RHP Boomer Biegalski gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game, and LHP Brandon Marsonek surrendered 2 runs, 1 earned, in the 10th to suffer the loss as San Jose won in a walk-off. Designated hitter Kevin Merrell singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, while shortstop Eric Marinez had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Third baseman William Toffey singled, walked and scored twice, and right fielder Chad Pinder went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk in his second rehab appearance with the Ports.
