After dropping their final two games at Tulsa, the RockHounds were able to put a win on the board in their first game at Springfield on Sunday. Designated hitter J.P. Sportman led the attack with 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the game and currently leads the team in both those categories. Sportman singled in Midland’s first run in the 3rd inning and later singled in 2 more runs for the RockHounds in the 8th. Center fielder B.J. Boyd doubled twice and drove in a pair in his return to action after missing three games due to food poisoning, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled and homered for the Hounds. Starter James Naile allowed 2 runs over 4 innings of work, while his tandem-pitching partner, RHP Grant Holmes, gave up 2 runs and struck out 6 in 3 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. RHP Sam Bragg got the final four outs to earn the save on Sunday. And with Chad Pinder’s promotion to Oakland from Nashville, Midland infielder Melvin Mercedes was reassigned to the Sounds, and infielder Jean Carlo Rodriguez was added to the Rockhounds roster.

With two outs, two men on and his team down by two runs in the top of the 3rd inning on Thursday, designated hitter Viosergy Rosa stepped to the plate and slugged a 3-run homer to put the Hounds on top. Left fielder J.P. Sportman then followed with a 3-run homer of his own in the 4th inning to extend the lead and help the Hounds win on Thursday. Starter Heath Fillmyer gave up 3 runs in 3 innings of work, while RHP Joel Seddon picked up the win after allowing 2 runs in 4 innings of relief, and RHP Jake Sanchez pitched a perfect 8th and 9th to notch his 2nd save for Midland on Thursday.

The RockHounds won their second straight game on Wednesday to go 2-0 in the best-of-five Texas League Championship Series and move within one game of clinching their third straight Texas League title. RHP Corey Walter turned in a solid start, throwing 5 shutout innings to earn the win on Wednesday. RHP Sam Bragg was charged with 3 runs, 2 earned, in just 1/3 of an inning in relief, while RHP Lou Trivino allowed 1 run over 1 1/3 innings. RHP Kyle Finnegan tossed 1 1/3 scoreless frames, and RHP Jake Sanchez struck out the side in the 9th to notch his 2nd save in the series. Shortstop Richie Martin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the 4th inning and then homered in the 6th. Center fielder Brett Vertigan collected 3 hits, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled, doubled and scored a run. Designated hitter Andy Paz singled in a pair, and third baseman Yairo Munoz and left fielder J.P. Sportman had a pair of hits apiece and each drove in a run for the RockHounds.

The RockHounds won Game #1 of the best-of-five Texas League Championship Series to move a step closer to clinching their third straight Texas League title on Tuesday. Right fielder Tyler Marincov collected 3 hits, singling and scoring in the 1st inning, then singling in the tying run in the top of the 3rd before singling and being left stranded in the 5th. Second baseman Max Schrock singled, doubled and scored twice, while third baseman Yairo Munoz walked and doubled in a pair of runs, and outfielders J.P. Sportman and Brett Vertigan both singled in runs for the RockHounds. Starter Joel Seddon allowed 3 runs and struck out 6 over 6 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Trey Cochran-Gill tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Jake Sanchez picked up the save despite giving up 1 run in the 9th for Midland. Before the series, the RockHounds placed RHP Ben Bracewell on the disabled list while adding LHP Evan Manarino to the roster.

The RockHounds clinched their third straight Texas League South Division title by earning their third victory in four games over Corpus Christi on Saturday. 32-year-old LHP Brandon Mann turned in an outstanding start, striking out 6 while throwing 6 1/3 shutout innings to earn the win for Midland. RHPs Trey Cochran-Gill and Jake Sanchez each allowed 1 run in relief for the RockHounds. Third baseman Yairo Munoz and left fielder J.P. Sportman each singled twice, doubled and drove in a run, while right fielder Tyler Marincov walked, scored twice and doubled in a run for the RockHounds. Shortstop Yairo Munoz homered for the second straight day and reached base 4 times to help the RockHounds win their fourth straight on Wednesday. Munoz tagged a 2-run homer in the 1st inning to give the Hounds an early lead they would never relinquish. The 21-year-old also doubled and drew a pair of walks in the game. Left fielder J.P. Sportman homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled, homered, walked twice and drove in 2, and second baseman Max Schrock singled twice and drove in a pair in his Double-A debut. Starter Brandon Mann allowed 3 runs and struck out 10 over 6 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Jake Sanchez tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 8th save on Wednesday. Along with Schrock, RHP James Naile was also promoted to Midland from the Ports on Wednesday, while shortstop Franklin Barreto and RHP Chris Jensen were both reassigned from the RockHounds to the Sounds. Barreto, catcher Beau Taylor and third baseman Matt Chapman were all named to the Texas League Postseason All-Star Team on Wednesday. Chapman was also named the Texas League Player of the Year, and Midland manager Ryan Christenson was named the Texas League Manager of the Year. And after clinching a playoff berth for the third straight season on Tuesday, the Hounds are now set to begin postseason play on Wednesday, September 7 at Corpus Christi.

RHP Daniel Gossett delivered another impressive outing for the RockHounds on Thursday. 2014’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s allowed just 1 earned run for the eighth time in his last nine starts while striking out a career-best 10 batters over 7 innings of work, and he left with the game a 1-1 tie. Second baseman J.P. Sportman hit the game-tying home run in the 5th inning, while catcher Andy Paz clubbed a home run in the top of the 10th to give the Hounds the lead, but a throwing error by first baseman Viosergy Rosa in the bottom of the 10th helped allow the tying run to score off RHP Jake Sanchez. Rosa then redeemed himself by doubling in the winning run in the top of the 11th, and third baseman Yairo Munoz then added a 2-run double, his second double of the night, to secure the victory for the RockHounds. Sanchez picked up the win with 2 innings in relief, while RHP Lou Trivino got the final three outs to earn his 1st save for Midland.

RHP Eduard Santos tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Bobby Wahl got the final three outs to post his 1st save for the Sounds. Shortstop Arismendy Alcantara homered in the 3rd inning to tie the game, while second baseman Joey Wendle slugged a three-run homer in the 6th to provide the margin of victory for Nashville. Designated hitter Renato Nunez drew a pair of walks and singled in a run in the 7th, and third baseman Matt Chapman went 0 for 4 in his Triple-A debut. And with Tyler Ladendorf landing on the disabled list for the A’s, Sounds shortstop Chad Pinder was promoted to Oakland on Wednesday.

With two men on and the game tied in the top of the 8th inning, right fielder Matt Olson ripped a 3-run homer to provide the margin of victory for Nashville on Friday. Olson also singled, doubled, walked and drove in a total of 4 runs in the game. Catcher Bruce Maxwell homered for the second straight night, while center fielder Jaycob Brugman collected 4 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and left fielder Arismendy Alcantara doubled, singled twice, stole a base and drove in 3. Starter Jesse Hahn allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work, and RHP Aaron Kurcz picked up the win despite giving up the tying run in the bottom of the 7th as the Sounds won their third straight. In roster news, infielder Ryon Healy was promoted to the A’s, while outfielder Billy Burns was optioned back to Nashville, and RHP Nick Tepesch was designated for assignment. Catcher Carson Blair was given his release and catcher Bryan Anderson rejoined the Sounds from the RockHounds on Friday. Healy went 0 for 4 while batting ninth and playing third base for the A’s in his major league debut on Friday.

The Sounds had their nine-game winning streak snapped in a 10-inning loss to rival Round Rock on Wednesday. Nashville was down by 6 runs heading into the bottom of the 9th inning, but third baseman Renato Nunez’s team-leading 10th home run, a 3-run shot, cut the deficit in half. And after the Sounds plated another run, right fielder Matt Olson, who had struck out 3 times in the game, tagged a 2-run homer to tie things up and send the game to extra innings. But RHP Ryan Brasier surrendered 6 runs in the top of the 10th to take the loss. Nunez also singled in the 1st inning and drove in the Sounds’ first run with a sacrifice fly in the 5th, while center fielder Jaycob Brugman had 4 hits, including a double as well as an RBI triple in the 7th, and second baseman Chad Pinder singled, walked and doubled in a run in the 10th. Starter Angel Castro allowed 7 runs, 4 earned, over 4 innings of work, while RHP Eduard Santos struck out 5 in 3 scoreless innings of relief for the Sounds.
