LHP Tucker Novotny turned in an excellent start to lead Lansing to its second straight shutout win over Peoria on Sunday. The 23-year-old southpaw threw 5 scoreless frames, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6 to earn the win for the Lugnuts. Novotny threw 78 pitches, 53 for strikes, and he’s now allowed just 2 runs while notching 19 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings of work over his last 3 starts. LHP Griffin Kirn pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, while RHP Mitch Myers and RHP Luis Carrasco each tossed a spotless frame to close out the two-hit shutout for Lansing. Shortstop Gunner Gouldsmith homered, doubled, walked and scored twice, while left fielder Breyson Guedez singled twice and walked, and right fielder Rodney Green singled, doubled and drove in 3 runs for the Lugnuts.
