Friday, May 5th: Hounds Fall Despite Herniaz’s Big Bat while Garcia Homers in Las Vegas Loss

On a day when all the A’s affiliates went down to defeat, RockHounds shortstop Darell Hernaiz turned in the most impressive performance among A’s prospects. The 21-year-old infielder went 3 for 4 with a triple and a double as Midland fell to Frisco on Friday. And Hernaiz is now 7 for 17 with 3 extra-base hits and 7 RBIs over his last 4 games while sporting a slash line of .316/.361/.474 on the season for the RockHounds. Starter Jake Walkinshaw was charged with 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 2/3 frames to suffer the loss on Friday.

 

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE  (TRIPLE-A)

Las Vegas lost its third straight to Sacramento on Friday, this one in 11 innings. First baseman Dermis Garcia tagged a two-run homer to tie the game in the top of the 9th, while second baseman Zack Gelof doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run, and center fielder Conner Capel drew a pair of walks in his first game with the Aviators. Starter Zach Neal gave up 3 runs over 5 frames, while LHP Garrett Williams threw 3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Joe Wieland allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, in extra innings to suffer the loss for Las Vegas.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (HIGH-A)

Dayton Dragons   6

Lansing Lugnuts   3

LP: Breault 0-2 / 16.03

Lansing fell for the third time in its last four games on Friday. Starter Jack Owen threw 3 2/3 shutout innings, while RHP Luke Anderson tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames, but RHP Hunter Breault surrendered 6 runs in 2 innings of relief to suffer the loss for the Lugnuts. Right fielder Jonny Butler singled, was hit by a pitch, swiped a pair of bases and scored twice, while catcher Daniel Susac singled, drew a walk and drove in a run in the loss.

 

CALIFORNIA LEAGUE  (SINGLE-A)

Fresno Grizzlies   6

Stockton Ports    4

LP: Sanchez 0-4 / 15.23

Stockton had its three-game winning streak snapped on Friday. Starter Micah Dallas allowed just 1 run over 4 frames, but RHP Yehizon Sanchez gave up 4 runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss. Third baseman T.J. Schofield-Sam collected a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while shortstop Jose Escorche singled, doubled and drove in a run in the loss.
