RHP Corey Avant turned in an excellent start to help Midland snap a four-game losing streak on Thursday. The 24-year-old righty allowed 1 unearned run while giving up just 2 hits and 1 walk and notching 6 strikeouts through 8 innings of work. Avant threw 96 pitches, 67 of them for strikes, and he now leads the Texas League, as well as all A’s minor leaguers, with 60 strikeouts (in 46 2/3 innings). The RockHounds, who’d scored just a single run over the course of their last four games, didn’t score their first run in this game until after Avant had already completed his work on the mound. RHP Jake Garland picked up the win after tossing a scoreless frame in the top of the 9th. Right fielder Cole Conn picked up a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases, while shortstop Bobby Boser singled and walked twice. Left fielder Carlos Pacheco drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th, and third baseman Euribiel Angeles singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th as Midland won in a walk-off. Top prospect Leo De Vries missed his fourth straight game while dealing with a finger issue.
