Shortstop Leo De Vries helped the RockHounds register their third straight win and improve their league-leading record to 17-5 on Tuesday. The 19-year-old Dominican infielder went 3 for 4 while collecting his 4th home run and his 4th double and driving in 3 runs on the day. De Vries is now 7 for 20 with 5 extra-base hits and 5 RBIs in his last 5 games, and he’s slashing .318/.404/.506 over his first 22 games for Midland this season. Third baseman Luke Mann doubled and drilled a two-run homer, while designated hitter Brennan Milone doubled, drew a walk and drove in a pair, and right fielder Clark Elliott doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Corey Avant allowed 2 runs over 4 frames, while LHP James Gonzalez was charged with 6 runs, 5 earned, in just 2/3 of an inning. RHP Jared Johnson threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win, and RHP Shohei Tomioka pitched a perfect 9th to record the save for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, Midland third baseman Tommy White, who was hitting .301 for the Hounds, was reassigned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
