Shortstop Kevin Smith had a monster day at the plate to help Las Vegas notch its first win of the season in Reno on Sunday. The 26-year-old infielder homered three times in the game, tagging a two-run shot in the 3rd, then following it up with another two-run blast in the 7th before capping off his performance with a three-run drive in the 8th. Smith also singled in the 5th and finished the day with 7 RBIs, and he now leads the Pacific Coast League with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs on the young season. But Smith wasn’t the only Aviator to have a big day at the plate on Sunday. Center fielder JJ Bleday pounded a pair of solo shots, one in the 2nd and one in the 4th, while also drawing a walk. And catcher Tyler Soderstrom homered, doubled twice and drove in a pair, while designated hitter Trenton Brooks singled and stole a base and then belted a two-run blast in the 9th. Starter Luis Medina was charged with 1 run while issuing 3 walks and notching 1 strikeout, and he held Reno hitless over 2 1/3 frames before exiting after throwing 50 pitches. RHP Billy Sullivan, acquired from Philadelphia in the Cristian Pache trade, tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief to pick up the victory for Las Vegas. LHP Hogan Harris is set to start the Aviators’ home opener on Tuesday against Oklahoma City. You can find the team’s opening day roster here – Las Vegas Aviators
