Third baseman Zack Gelof made an exciting first impression in his Double-A debut on Friday. Last year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s singled in the 1st inning, slugged a grand slam with two outs in the 3rd, drew a walk in the 7th, and then socked his second home run of the game, a solo shot, in the 9th. Catcher Jonah Bride homered, doubled, walked and drove in 4 runs, while shortstop Logan Davidson homered, doubled and drew a walk. Second baseman Jeremy Eierman singled twice and walked twice, and first baseman Will Simoneit drilled a pair of doubles. Starter Jack Cushing was charged with 6 runs in 4 1/3 innings of work, while LHP Austin Briggs tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to record the win, while RHP Jack Weisenburger got the final two outs to secure the save for Midland.
