Thursday, June 17th: Wilson Has Big Night for Vegas while Suddleson Helps Hounds Win

Unfortunately, the best performance of the night on Thursday came in a losing cause as Las Vegas lost its fourth straight. But third baseman Jacob Wilson had a big night at the plate. The 30-year-old infielder slugged a solo shot in the 2nd inning and then drilled a three-run drive in the 3rd to tie the game. Wilson also notched a pair of singles on the night, and his .629 slugging percentage is currently tops on the team. Left fielder Cody Thomas singled, tripled, walked and drove in a run, while designated hitter Austin Allen singled, doubled and drew a walk, and shortstop Pete Kozma singled and homered for Las Vegas in the loss. Starter Matt Milburn surrendered 5 runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Jesus Zambrano gave up 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss. Oakland RHP J.B. Wendelken walked 2 batters and was charged with 1 run in 1 inning of relief in his first rehab appearance with the Aviators, and RHP Zach Jackson allowed 2 runs in 1 inning of work in his Las Vegas debut. Meanwhile, outfielder Buddy Reed landed on the injured list with a hand injury, and RHP Tanner Anderson was released on Thursday.

The RockHounds recorded their second straight win over the Sod Poodles on Thursday. Right fielder Jake Suddleson homered for the second straight night, singled twice, stole a base and drove in a pair, while left fielder Devin Foyle singled, walked and slugged a two-run shot. Third baseman Jeremy Eierman drilled a three-run drive, and catcher JJ Schwarz tagged a two-run homer for the Hounds. Starter Jared Koenig allowed 3 runs and struck out 6 over 6 innings of work to register the win for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, Midland RHP Zach Jackson was reassigned to Las Vegas on Thursday.

 

HIGH-A CENTRAL LEAGUE

The Lugnuts outlasted the Loons to notch a one-run victory on Thursday. 23-year-old Cuban RHP Richard Guasch turned in another solid start, allowing 2 runs while striking out 8 over 5 frames for Lansing. RHP Brock Whittlesey picked up the win despite giving up 1 run in 1 inning of relief, and RHP Charles Hall got the final four outs for the Lugnuts to secure the save. Second baseman Ryan Gridley singled twice, walked and stole a base, while catcher Will Simoneit collected a pair of hits, and center fielder Elvis Peralta singled, drove in a run and swiped a pair of bases for Lansing.

 

LOW-A WEST LEAGUE

Stockton fell for the fifth time in its last six games on Thursday. Starting pitcher Jack Cushing allowed 7 runs, 4 earned, over 4 1/3 frames to take the loss, while tandem starter Trayson Kubo unleashed 4 wild pitches and was charged with 4 runs, 2 earned, in 1 1/3 innings of relief for Stockton. First baseman Lawrence Butler tagged a two-run homer, tripled in a run, walked and tallied his team-high 11th stolen base, while left fielder Kevin Richards singled, walked, stole a base and drove in a run, and shortstop Sahid Valenzuela had a pair of hits, including a double, for the Ports.
