(updated July 1, 2020)

The A’s announced their 60-man player pool for the 2020 season on Sunday. 42 players will report to the A’s July training camp at the Oakland Coliseum on July 2 with the first workout scheduled for July 4. The remaining players will report to an alternate site, which may or may not be located in Stockton, later in the month.

The season is set to begin on July 23, and opening day rosters will include 30 players. After two weeks, that number will be reduced to 28, and after four weeks, the number will be reduced to 26 for the remainder of the season.

Any of the players in the A’s 60-man player pool is eligible to be on the team’s opening day roster; however, if a player is not already on the 40-man roster, he would have to be added. And it’s likely that the A’s 30-man opening day roster will be entirely composed of players currently on the team’s 40-man roster who will be among the group working out at the Oakland Coliseum.

Of the 42 players who will be working out at the Coliseum…

-6 players signed as minor league free agents in the offseason, were assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, are not on the 40-man roster, and are non-roster invitees to camp (catcher Carlos Perez, infielders Ryan Goins and Nate Orf, and pitchers Lucas Luetge, Jordan Weems and Jaime Schultz). [UPDATE 7/1: With the trade of Jorge Mateo, infielder Eric Campbell has since been added to this group to bring the number to 7.]

-4 players were optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in March but remain on the 40-man roster (infielder Sheldon Neuse, outfielder Skye Bolt, and pitchers Paul Blackburn and Daniel Gossett).

-1 player is currently on the 60-day injured list (pitcher Daniel Mengden).

-And the remaining 31 players are all members of the A’s 40-man roster [UPDATE 7/1: With the trade of infielder Jorge Mateo, this number now stands at 30.]

13 of the 18 players who will be working out an alternate site have been officially announced by the A’s. Of those 13 players who have been officially announced…

-4 are members of the A’s 40-man roster who have been optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas (outfielder Dustin Fowler, and pitchers Grant Holmes, Daulton Jefferies and James Kaprielian), and Fowler is set to be the only player at the alternate training site with major league experience.

-9 are non-members of the A’s 40-man roster who are currently assigned to various affiliates within the A’s minor league system (catchers Kyle McCann and Tyler Soderstrom, infielders Nick Allen and Logan Davidson, outfielders Greg Deichmann and Buddy Reed, and pitchers Parker Dunshee, Brian Howard and Tyler Baum).

-And A’s Farm has learned that the remaining group of 5 yet-to-be-announced players who will be working out at the alternate site includes outfielders Luis Barrera (who is on the A’s 40-man roster) and Brayan Buelvas, shortstop Robert Puason, and pitchers Miguel Romero and Wandisson Charles. All are internationally-based players. [UPDATE 7/1: This group has now been officially announced by the A’s.]
