Austin Beck’s big bat helped the Ports prevail in the opening game of their three-game series against Modesto on Monday. The center fielder reached base 5 times, collecting a triple, a double and a single while also walking twice, scoring 3 runs and driving in a pair for the Ports. Second baseman Trace Loehr singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run, while designated hitter Hunter Hargrove had a pair of doubles and drove in 3. Right fielder Jameson Hannah doubled twice and scored twice, and catcher Robert Mullen tagged a two-run homer for Stockton. Starter Xavier Altamirano was solid, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 5 over 4 scoreless frames, while RHP Jesus Zambrano tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief to pick up the win for the Ports.

The Aviators mounted a 9th-inning comeback to snap their three-game skid on Monday. First baseman Seth Brown collected 4 hits, including a pair of doubles, drew a walk and drove in 2 runs, including the first run in the team’s big four-run 9th. Third baseman Sheldon Neuse had a pair of hits and drove in 3 runs, including the tying run in the 9th, while catcher Beau Taylor singled and tagged a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the top of the 9th. Second baseman Corban Joseph singled twice and homered, and designated hitter Jorge Mateo had 3 hits, including a double, and scored twice. Starter Tyler Alexander allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 3 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Brian Schlitter picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Ryan Dull pitched a perfect 9th to post his 3rd save for Las Vegas. Meanwhile, RHP Trey McNutt was reassigned from the RockHounds to the Aviators on Monday.
