Stockton took its second straight from San Jose on Wednesday, and for the second straight night, first baseman Sandber Pimentel slugged a pair of home runs for the Ports. The 23-year-old was sidelined for the first seven weeks of the season, and after beng activated in late May, he struggled mightily during his first month back in action. But Pimentel has really been heating up over the past week. He hit a pair of homers to help the Ports win on Tuesday, then came back and ripped two more round-trippers to help Stockton win again on Wednesday, and he’s now 10 for 23 with 5 home runs, 3 doubles and 13 RBIs over his last 6 games for Stockton. Center fielder Luis Barrera tripled, walked and scored a run, while left fielder Luke Persico, second baseman Brallan Perez and designated hitter Jason Goldsten had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Starter Zack Erwin was charged with 6 runs in just 3 innings of work, while LHP Ty Damron tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win, and RHP Angel Duno got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 7th save for Stockton.

Shortstop Jorge Mateo

For the second straight game, shortstop Jorge Mateo tripled in the winning run for Nashville. On Tuesday, he did it with one out in the 9th inning and on Wednesday he did it with one out in the 6th. Mateo also singled but was left stranded in the 4th, and he currently leads the team with 9 triples. Right fielder Ramon Laureano ripped a two-run homer in the 3rd inning, and designated hitter Anthony Garcia doubled twice and scored a run for the Sounds. Starter Eric Jokisch allowed 4 runs, 2 earned, over 5 frames to pick up the win, while RHP J.B. Wendelken tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to secure his 1st save for the Sounds. And with Oakland RHP Daniel Mengden landing on the disabled list, Nashville RHP Chris Bassitt was recalled by the A’s on Wednesday.

The Sounds shut out Oklahoma City on just 3 hits in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader to sweep the twinbill. Starter Ben Bracewell was outstanding, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 5 over 5 scoreless frames to earn the win, while RHP Bobby Wahl got thee final three outs to complete the shutout and notch his 9th save for Nashville. Left fielder Brett Vertigan singed, doubled, tripled and scored the Sounds’ sole run on first baseman Nick Martini‘s RBI single as Martini extended his on-base streak to 57 games on Wednesday.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Ivan Andueza

The Snappers prevailed over the Kernels in 11 innings on Wednesday. LHP Ivan Andueza turned in a solid start, allowing 2 runs over 6 2/3 innings, and he left the game with a one-run lead. But RHP Wandisson Charles walked 4 straight with two outs in the bottom of the 7th to force home the tying run. Snappers skipper Webster Garrison was ejected after arguing over a checked-swing ball call on the final walk. First baseman Hunter Hargrove hit a two-run homer in the top of the 3rd inning to give Beloit an early lead, and catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled twice and drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th for the Snappers. RHP Jean Ruiz tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win for Beloit. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Dominican RHP Jaimito Lebron was promoted to the Snappers from the Lake Monsters on Wednesday.
