Top pitching prospect Sonny Gray turned in another impressive outing for the River Cats on Thursday, striking out 9 over 7 scoreless innings to earn his 8th win, while RHP Brian Gordon got the final 3 outs for his 7th save. Catcher Stephen Vogt, who returned to the River Cats with Oakland’s recall of RHP Dan Straily, collected a pair of hits, while outfielder Michael Choice doubled in Sacramento’s only run of the game in the top of the 1st inning. Midland exploded for 16 runs on Thursday. Outfielder Tyler Ladendorf homered, doubled and drove in 5 runs, while second baseman Dusty Coleman had 3 hits and 3 RBIs for the RockHounds. Starter Sean Murphy allowed 4 runs and struck out 8 over 5 innings of work to register his 6th win. In other news, RHPs Brett Hunter and Gary Daley were suspended for unknown reasons, while RHP Pedro Vidal and LHP Jake Brown were promoted to Midland from Stockton, and 3B Jefry Marte was activated from the disabled list.

RHP Josh Bowman rebounded from an awful outing last weekend to make an outstanding start for Stockton on Thursday, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, while striking out 11 over 7 innings, and he left the game with a 1-run lead. But RHP Tucker Healy came on to surrender 3 runs in the 8th inning to take the loss. Designated hitter Josh Whitaker doubled in his return from the disabled list, while outfielder Dusty Robinson collected 3 hits, including a home run and a double, for the Ports. Meanwhile, outfielder Bobby Crocker was placed on the disabled list and LHP Omar Duran was promoted from Vermont to take the place of pitchers Jake Brown and Pedro Vidal who were elevated to Midland.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

Shortstop Daniel Robertson had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs, including the tying run for the Snappers on Thursday, and second baseman Chris Bostick followed by tripling in the go-ahead run for Beloit. Starter Andres Avila allowed 2 runs in 4 innings of work, while LHP Chris Lamb tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief to notch his 2nd win, and RHP Austin House got the final 6 outs for his 5th save.

The A’s 6th overall draft pick this year, RHP Dylan Covey, struck out 3 in 3 scoreless innings on Thursday, and he now hasn’t allowed an earned run in his first 8 innings of pro ball. The A’s 19th overall pick, outfielder Jaycob Brugman, doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning for Vermont, but LHP Taylor Massey gave up a run in the 8th to tie the game and RHP Derek Hansen surrendered the go-ahead run in the 9th to take the loss. Vermont released outfielder Kelvin Rojas and lost LHP Omar Duran when he was promoted to Stockton.

 

ARIZONA LEAGUE  (Rookie Short-Season)

Starter Alex Nolasco allowed 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Jensi Peralta gave up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning of relief to take the loss. First baseman Gabriel Santana collected 3 hits, while designated hitter Ben McQuown had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs for the A’s.

  1. I’m looking for more info on Daley and Hunter’s suspensions but not finding any. This would be Daley’s second suspension so that can’t be good….
