The Ports prevailed again on Friday to notch their third straight victory over the Nuts. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st, third baseman William Toffey stepped to the plate and slugged a grand slam to give Stockton a lead it would never surrender on Friday. Toffey also singled and scored a run in the 5th, and last year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s currently boasts a team-best .431 on-base percentage. First baseman Sandber Pimentel socked his 1st home run of the season and drove in a pair for the Ports. LHP Zack Erwin turned in a strong start for Stockton, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings of work to pick up his 6th win for the Ports. Meanwhile, Snappers LHP Ty Damron was promoted to the Ports on Friday.

The Sounds suffered their fifth loss in their last six games on Friday. RHP James Naile turned in his team-leading 7th quality start, allowing 2 runs over 7 innings of work, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. But in the top of the 8th, RHP Ryan Dull allowed an unearned run, with the help of a throwng error by shortstop Jorge Mateo, and he ended up suffering his 2nd loss for the Sounds. Nashville hitters notched just three hits on the night. Mateo hit his team-leading 7th triple to drive in a run, and third baseman Sheldon Neuse and center fielder Brett Vertigan both singled in the loss. With outfielder Matt Joyce returning from the disabled list and joining the A’s active roster, outfielder Jake Smolinski was sent back to Nashville on Friday. And in other news, A’s LHP Brett Anderson was scheduled to make a rehab start for the Sounds on Saturday.

The RockHounds were shut out on just three hits on Friday to drop their fifth straight and suffer their eighth loss in their last nine games. Left fielder Tyler Ramirez and first baseman Seth Brown both singled, while catcher Santiago Chavez doubled for Midland’s only extra-base hit in the loss. Starter Parker Dunshee allowed 3 runs and struck out 9 over 6 innings of work to take the loss in his first appearance for the RockHounds.

Pitcher Ivan Andueza

LHP Ivan Andueza turned in his second straight scoreless start for the Snappers on Friday. The 23-year-old Venezuelan southpaw allowed just 2 hits over 5 scoreless frames, and he’s now tossed 10 scoreless innings over his last two starts for the Snappers. Andueza left the game with a one-run lead, but RHP Heath Bowers surrendered the tying run in the 7th inning. First baseman Hunter Hargrove then hit a two-run homer in the top of the 8th to take back the lead for good. Shortstop Nick Allen and designated hitter Jack Meggs had a pair of hits apiece and each drove in a run, and RHP Nick Highberger tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 2nd win for the Snappers. Meanwhile, Beloit LHP Ty Damron was reassigned to Stockton on Friday.

The Lake Monsters suffered their second straight one-run loss to Hudson Valley on Friday. 19-year-old Panamanian RHP Abdiel Mendoza surrendered 6 runs over 4 1/3 frames to take the loss. Designated hitter Payton Squier had a pair of hits, drove in a run and stole a base, while center fielder Anthony Churlin singled twice and drove in a run, and catcher Iolana Akau and third baseman Javier Godard both doubled in the loss.
