PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE (Triple-A)
Sacramento River Cats 7
Fresno Grizzlies 5
WP – Straily 3-0 / 4.40
HR – Peterson (4), Walsh 2 (2)
Farmhand Of The Game:
Second Baseman Colin Walsh
(4 for 4 / 2 Home Runs / Double / 3 RBIs)
Second baseman Colin Walsh, who was out of work in early April when Oakland signed him as a minor league free agent, rewarded the A’s faith in him on Tuesday with a huge night in Sacramento’s win over Fresno. The 24-year-old switch-hitter, who was promoted to Sacramento from Midland last month and just activated off the disabled list on Monday, reached base in all 4 at-bats on Tuesday – doubling in the go-ahead run for Sacramento in the 2nd inning, singling in the 4th, slugging his 1st home run of the night in the 6th, and then smacking his 2nd home run of the night in the 8th. Outfielder Shane Peterson also had a pretty productive night, posting a single, a double, a home run and driving in 3, while first baseman Nate Freiman singled, doubled and walked, and catcher Ryan Ortiz and third baseman Jose Martinez had a pair of hits apiece. Starter Dan Straily was a little shaky once again for Sacramento, allowing 4 runs over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up earning his 3rd win on Tuesday. RHP Jeremy McBryde, who’s now allowed just 1 run in his last 9 appearances, got the final 3 outs for his 3rd save.
