Catcher Stephen Vogt has been on fire since his return from the disabled list a week and a half ago. Sacramento’s 29-year-old backstop homered, tripled and drove in 4 runs, including the winning run in the 8th inning, for the Cats on Friday. After going 0 for 5 in his first game back, Vogt has gone 14 for 30 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, a home run and 8 RBIs over his last 7 games. Starter Marcus Walden was a little rocky for the River Cats, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks over 5 innings of work, while RHP Fernando Nieve allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief to pick up his 2nd win, and RHP Jeremy McBryde got the final 3 outs for his 2nd save.

RHP Shawn Haviland turned in one of his most impressive starts so far this season for the RockHounds, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits while walking none and striking out 5, but he still ended up taking the loss on Friday. Midland’s lineup managed just 2 hits in the game. Second baseman Hiroyuki Nakajima singled, third baseman Miles Head doubled, and first baseman Max Muncy went 0 for 2 with a walk in his first game back in action since his return from the disabled list.

Stockton starter Seth Streich allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, while striking out 8 over 5 1/3 innings and took his 4th loss on Friday. Catcher Bruce Maxwell doubled and drove in both of Stockton’s runs on the night, while shortstop Daniel Robertson and outfielder Aaron Shipman had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports.

RHP Bobby Wahl got off to a shaky start for the Snappers on Friday and ended up allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 7 hits over 3 innings of work while he slowly builds up his pitch count after returning from the disabled list. LHP Brent Powers came on to give up 1 run over 3 innings, while RHP Sam Bragg struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief, and the game was tied 4-4 heading into the 9th inning. RHP Andres Avila loaded the bases in the top of the 9th before allowing a sacrifice fly to bring around what would prove to be the winning run for Wisconsin. First baseman B.A. Vollmuth had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, while outfielder Herschel Powell singled, walked twice and stole a base, shortstop Melvin Mercedes had a pair of hits, and second baseman Sam Roberts and third baseman Luis Baez each drove in a run for the Snappers.
