Midland came back from a 6-run deficit in the 2nd inning to win in a 9th inning walk-off on Tuesday. LHP Andrew Werner made his second start in place of injured RHP Raul Alcantara and allowed 7 runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work. RHP Murphy Smith followed with another impressive outing in relief, giving up just 2 hits over 4 1/3 scoreless innings to keep his team in the game. And the Hounds took the opportunity to claw their way back, scoring 3 in the 6th and 4 in the 9th to notch a come-from-behind win. Catcher Beau Taylor had 3 hits and drove in a pair of runs in the 6th, singled in the first run in the 9th and also came around to score the tying run in the 9th. Designated hitter Miles Head doubled home a pair of runs in the 9th, and left fielder Anthony Aliotti singled in the winning run for the RockHounds. Right fielder Conner Crumbliss walked 5 times in the game, while first baseman Max Muncy drew 3 walks, and RHP Jesus Castillo picked up his 1st win after allowing 1 run in 3 innings of relief. In others news, outfielder Josh Whitaker was placed on the disabled list for the RockHounds. And infielder Hiro Nakajima, and his interpreter, are scheduled to join Midland on Wednesday, though they may not be arriving until after Wednesday’s scheduled game.

Tuesday’s scheduled starter Josh Lindblom had his start pushed back to Thursday, presumably to better line him up to make a start in the A’s doubleheader next week versus Seattle. RHP Deryk Hooker came out of the River Cats bullpen to make the start in his place and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in just 2 1/3 innings to take his 3rd loss on Tuesday. Second baseman Tyler Ladendorf had 2 doubles and drove in a pair of runs, while outfielder Shane Peterson collected 3 hits, and shortstop Andy Parrino singled, doubled and scored a run for the River Cats.

Tuesday’s scheduled starter Tim Atherton was placed on the disabled list before the game, while RHP Michael Ynoa was activated off the DL to take his place on the Ports roster. RHP Jonathan Joseph came out of the bullpen to make the start in place of Atherton and allowed 2 runs while striking out 6 over 4 innings of work on Tuesday. RHP Kris Hall gave up 4 runs in 2 innings of relief, while RHP Tyler Hollstegge surrendered a run in the 7th, and RHP Tucker Healy allowed the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to take his 1st loss. Second baseman Chad Pinder had 3 hits, including his 3rd triple and his 7th home run, and drove in 2 runs, while outfielder Dusty Robinson slugged his 6th homer, and catcher Bruce Maxwell had 3 hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports.

RHP Junior Mendez had a rough start for the Snappers in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, surrendering 7 runs in just 2 1/3 innings to take his 2nd loss, while RHP Dominique Vattuone allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings, and RHP Trevor Bayless, who rejoined the team from extended spring training, gave up an unearned run in 1 inning of relief. First baseman Ryan Huck singled and hit his 1st home run, a 2-run shot, while third baseman B.A. Vollmuth slugged his 2nd home run, also a 2-run shot, for the Snappers.

In just his second start of the year, LHP Brent Powers allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits over 3 innings of work in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Beloit. The Snappers scored 3 runs early though to tie the game, and LHP Chris Lamb came in to strike out 6 over 5 scoreless innings of relief to keep the game knotted at 3-3 through the 8th. But RHP Andres Avila gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in the 9th to take his 2nd loss for the Snappers. First baseman Ryan Huck singled and hit his 2nd home run of the day, while designated hitter Michael Soto tagged his 3rd round-tripper, and second baseman Sam Roberts doubled and had a pair of singles for the Snappers.
