RHP Steven Echavarria turned in one of his strongest starts to lead Midland to a shutout win over San Antonio on Thursday. The 21-year-old righty threw 5 2/3 scoreless frames, allowing 5 hits and just 1 walk while notching 7 strikeouts to record the win for the RockHounds. Echavarria threw 90 pitches, 62 of them for strikes, and he’s now failed to allow a run in his last 10 innings of work for Midland. RHP A.J. Causey pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings in relief, while RHPs Jay Dill and Blaze Pontes each tossed a scoreless frame, with Pontes completing the seven-hit shutout and securing the save for the Hounds. Second baseman Casey Yamauchi collected a pair of hits, while third baseman Euribiel Angeles doubled, drove in a run and scored a run, and left fielder Clark Elliott drew a walk and singled in a run for the RockHounds.
