On a night when the Ports managed just a pair of hits, RHP Luis Burgos turned in a solid outing on Saturday to help Stockton snap its seven-game losing streak. RHP Blake Hammond made the start and gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of work while issuing 5 walks. RHP Itsuki Takemoto took over on the mound and allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Luis Burgos then entered in the bottom of the 5th inning with the game tied 3-3. Burgos, who was acquired from the Yankees in exchange for Max Schuemann, held San Jose scoreless for 4 1/3 frames, notching 4 strikeouts in the process, to give his team a chance to take the lead and pick up the win in the Ports’ one-run victory. LHP Griffin Kirn notched the last two outs in the 9th to secure the save for Stockton. Designated hitter Max Durrington doubled and scored the Ports’ first run and then drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly, while shortstop Michael Brooks singled for Stockton’s only other hit, drew a walk and swiped a pair of bases, and first baseman Cesar Gonzalez walked twice and scored the tying run with a steal of home for Stockton.
