Saturday, April 4th: Joshua Kuroda-Grauer Helps Hounds Win 3rd Straight while Junior Perez leads Vegas to Victory

Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, getting his first start at third base this season, helped the RockHounds record their third straight win on Saturday. The 23-year-old infielder singled, stole second base and scored the RockHounds’ first run in the bottom of the 1st inning. He then slugged a solo shot with two outs in the 5th inning to provide the RockHounds with their final run, and Midland’s leadoff man is now tied for the league lead in runs scored on the young season. Catcher Cole Conn doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run, while first baseman Tommy White and center fielder Ryan Lasko both drove in runs for the RockHounds. Starter Corey Avant allowed 2 runs and struck out 7 through 3 1/3 innings of work, while tandem starter JJ Goss, who was signed as a minor league free agent in the offseason, threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win, and RHP Shohei Tomioka got the final three outs to secure the save for Midland.

The Aviators notched their third victory in their last four games on Saturday. Center fielder Junior Perez collected a pair of hits, stole a base and drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the 5th inning. Third baseman Michael Stefanic slugged a solo shot in the 6th inning, while second baseman Zack Gelof had 3 hits to raise his average to an even .400, drew a walk and scored twice, and right fielder Colby Thomas singled, doubled and drove in a pair for the Aviators. Starter Mason Barnett allowed 4 runs in 4 innings of work, while RHP Brooks Kriske struck out 5 through 2 scoreless and hitless innings of relief to pick up the win, and RHP Wander Suero pitched a perfect frame in the 9th to secure the save for Las Vegas.

Ports pitchers surrendered 15 runs as Stockton suffered the loss on Saturday. Starter Cole Miller was charged with 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings of work to take the loss. RHP Itsuki Takemoto issued 4 walks and surrendered 5 runs while recording just one out in the 3rd inning. RHP Roberto Urdaneta gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Donny Troconis permitted 3 runs while tossing 2 1/3 innings for Stockton. Designated hitter Ali Camarillo had 3 hits and swiped a pair of bases, while second baseman Michael Brooks collected 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and shortstop Bryan Andrade singled, tripled and drove in a run for the Ports.
