LHP Gage Jump turned in a strong start to help the RockHounds register the win over the Sod Poodles in Game #1 of the Texas League South Division playoff series on Tuesday. The 22-year-old southpaw allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk and struck out 8 while throwing 5 2/3 scoreless frames to earn the victory for Midland. RHPs Stevie Emanuels, Mark Adamiak and Shohei Tomioka each gave up 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning of relief, but LHP Colton Johnson notched the final out in the 9th to record the save for the RockHounds. Center fielder Nate Nankil and shortstop Leo De Vries led the offensive attack for Midland. Nankil went 4 for 5 with a two-run homer in the 2nd inning and scored twice, while De Vries slugged a solo shot to put his team on the board in the 1st inning and also singled in another run in the 8th. Catcher Cole Conn singled, doubled, tripled and drove in a pair, and left fielder Clark Elliott, who was named the Texas League Player of the Week for last week, doubled, walked twice and scored twice for the Hounds. Game #2 of the best-of-three divisional playoff series is set to take place in Midland on Thursday.

 

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE  (TRIPLE-A)

WP: Maldonado 2-5 / 5.12

Las Vegas notched a walk-off win over Salt Lake on Tuesday. RHP Yunior Tur turned in a solid start, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks and striking out 8 while throwing 5 scoreless frames for the Aviators. RHP Anthony Maldonado gave up 3 runs in the top of the 9th to tie the game but still managed to pick up the victory for Las Vegas. Catcher Bryan Lavastida went 3 for 5 and singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, while shortstop Drew Swift singled twice, stole a base and drove in a pair of runs for the Aviators.
