Thursday, September 4th: Leo De Vries Helps Hounds Win while Blandford Hits 2 HRs for Ports

After sitting out three consecutive games with a shoulder issue, shortstop Leo De Vries returned to action to help the RockHounds win in 10 innings on Thursday. The 18-year-old Dominican switch-hitter tripled, doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, and he now has 42 extra-base hits in 109 combined games for Midland, Lansing and Fort Wayne this season. Right fielder Nate Nankil singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a pair of runs, while second baseman Joshua Kuroda-Grauer doubled, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Third baseman Sahid Valenzuela had a pair of hits and drove in a run, and left fielder Clark Elliott drew a walk, scored a run and singled in the tying run in the bottom of the 9th for the RockHounds. 19-year-old Taiwanese LHP Wei-En Lin allowed 2 runs through 3 1/3 innings in his Midland debut, while LHP Diego Barrera gave up 4 runs in just 1 inning of relief, but RHP Shohei Tomioka tossed a scoreless frame in the top of the 10th to record the win for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, Midland third baseman Tommy White has landed on the injured list with a hamstring injury.
