Even though the RockHounds ended up going down to defeat in 12 innings, Midland RHP Braden Nett turned in the top performance in the system on Wednesday. The 23-year-old righty, who was acquired from the Padres in the Mason Miller deal this summer, turned in a strong start, allowing 2 runs while notching a career-high 11 strikeouts without issuing a walk through 6 2/3 innings of work, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. Nett threw 86 pitches, 59 of them for strikes, and kept opposing batters off balance all day. RHP Shohei Tomioka permitted 1 unearned run in the 10th inning, while RHP Colin Peluse gave up 2 unearned runs in the 11th, and LHP CD Pelham allowed the winning run in the top of the 12th to suffer the loss for Midland. Right fielder Brayan Buelvas singled, walked and tagged a two-run homer in the 2nd inning to give his team the lead, while second baseman Sahid Valenzuela singled, drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and drove in the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the 11th. Shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer singled, doubled and scored twice, and third baseman T.J. Schofield-Sam had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Top prospect Leo De Vries missed his third consecutive game while dealing with a shoulder issue, but he’s expected to be back in action for the Hounds before long.
