On a day when all the A’s affiliates went down to defeat, RHP Corey Avant turned in the best performance of the day. The 23-year-old righty allowed just 2 hits and 2 walks and struck out 7 while throwing 5 scoreless frames, and he left with the game a scoreless tie. Avant threw 77 pitches, 47 for strikes and, in the month of July, he’s compiled an ERA of 1.80 in 25 innings of work over 5 starts. 19-year-old Taiwanese LHP Wei-En Lin allowed 1 run in 2 2/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss. First baseman Darlyn Montero and right fielder Jared Dickey both singled to provide Lansing’s only hits in the loss.
