Last year’s top draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Nick Kurtz, had another big night at the plate to help lead Las Vegas to its second straight victory over Sacramento on Wednesday. The 22-year-old slugger collected a pair of hits, including his team-leading 3rd home run in the 1st inning, while driving in 3 runs for the Aviators. Kurtz is now 10 for 21 with 5 extra-base hits and 9 RBI through the team’s first five games of the season. Second baseman Logan Davidson had a pair of hits, including a double, and stole a base, while center fielder Denzel Clarke singled, walked and was hit by a pitch, and catcher Willie MacIver singled and stole a base for the Aviators. Starter Jason Alexander allowed 2 runs through 3 1/3 innings of work, while LHP Hogan Harris notched 3 strikeouts in 1 scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance since being optioned back to Las Vegas. LHP Ben Bowden tossed a scoreless frame in the top of the 8th to pick up the win, and RHP Grant Holman got the final three outs in the 9th to secure the save for the Aviators.
