RHP Mason Barnett turned in a solid start, but Midland ended up going down to defeat in the second game of the Texas League Championship Series on Tuesday. The 23-year-old righty, who was acquired from Kansas City in the Lucas Erceg trade, allowed just 1 run and struck out 8 over 5 frames. LHP Colton Johnson replaced him on the mound for the bottom of the 6th and issued a pair of walks and made a throwing error that ended up leading to the winning run scoring on a sacrifice fly. RHP Lincoln Henzman tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and RHP Ryan Cusick allowed 1 unearned run in the bottom of the 8th for the RockHounds. Third baseman Jordan Groshans had 3 hits, including a double, while catcher Daniel Susac, first baseman Will Simpson, left fielder Henry Bolte and center fielder Denzel Clarke had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds in the loss. The best-of-three series in now tied 1-1, and the decisive game is set to take place on Wednesday in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

 

In Other News…

The Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators finished their season on Sunday with a record of 74-75 (.497), a team ERA of 6.01 and a league-best team OPS of .856. Infielder Jordan Diaz led Las Vegas with 119 hits and 85 RBIs, while first baseman Ryan Noda led the Aviators with 89 walks and 81 runs. Catcher Carlos Perez led the team with 27 home runs and 58 extra-base hits, and RHP Robert Dugger led the pitching staff with 94 innings and 87 strikeouts.
