Sunday, September 22nd: Henry Bolte’s 2 HRs Help Hounds Win Game #1 while Vegas Wins in a Walk-Off

Left fielder Henry Bolte’s big bat helped the RockHounds record the win over the Travelers in the first game of the Texas League Championship Series on Sunday. The 21-year-old outfielder slugged a solo shot with one out in the 2nd inning and then socked his second solo shot of the day with two outs in the 8th inning. Bolte also drew a walk in the 5th and, during the regular season, he totaled 55 extra-base hits, 61 walks and 73 RBIs over 123 games for Lansing and Midland. Shortstop Jeremy Eierman singled, doubled twice and scored twice, while catcher Daniel Susac had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs, and first baseman Will Simpson singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds. LHP James Gonzalez had a rough start, giving up 5 runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work, but LHP Will Johnston threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Shohei Tomioka tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings to register the win for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, the A’s optioned first baseman Ryan Noda to Midland after Sunday’s game. The second game of the series is set to take place on Tuesday in Frisco.

Las Vegas snapped its five-game losing streak by winning in a walk-off on Sunday. First baseman CJ Alexander homered, singled twice and drove in a pair, while catcher Yohel Pozo singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run, and third baseman Armando Alvarez had a pair of hits and drove in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 9th for Las Vegas. RHP Jake Garland gave up 3 runs in 4 innings of work in his Triple-A debut, while RHP Wander Guante allowed 1 run over 4 frames, and LHP Jack O’Loughlin gave up 1 run in the top of the 9th and picked up the victory for Las Vegas.
