Saturday, August 10th: Nick Kurtz Homers in Stockton Debut while Brady Basso Pitches Vegas to Victory

Stockton suffered its fourth loss in its last five games on Saturday, but this year’s top draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Nick Kurtz, turned in the top performance of the day. In his Stockton debut, the 21-year-old infielder homered, singled, walked twice, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in his first game for the Ports. In his college career, Kurtz hit 61 home runs and drew 189 walks in 784 plate appearances during three seasons at Wake Forest. The A’s 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th-round picks, third baseman Tommy White, shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer and center fielder Rodney Green, also made their Stockton debuts on Saturday. White singled twice, was hit by a pitch and scored a run, while Kuroda-Grauer had 3 hits, drew a walk and scored 3 runs, and Green singled, walked twice and drove in a pair. Catcher Nick Schwartz singled, homered, drew a walk and drove in a pair for the Ports. Unfortunately, starter Steven Echavarria had a rough outing, surrendering 10 runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work to suffer the loss for Stockton.
