Sacramento River Cats 3
WP: B.Bracewell
HR: A.Rivas, S.Bolt
Prospect Of The Game:
First Baseman Alfonso Rivas
(1 for 3 / Home Run / 3 RBIs / Walk)
First baseman Alfonso Rivas led Las Vegas to a big win in the first game of its best-of-five playoff series on Wednesday. Last year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, who spent most of this season with Stockton, slugged a three-run homer in the Aviators’ five-run 3rd inning to give Las Vegas a five-run lead that would prove to be insurmountable. Rivas has been riding a late-season surge, and in eight regular season games after he joined Las Vegas, the 22-year-old went 13 for 32 with 4 extra-base hits for the Aviators. Right fielder Skye Bolt slugged a solo shot in the 4th inning on Wednesday, while third baseman Eric Campbell had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair, and left fielder Mark Payton singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice for Las Vegas. Starter Daniel Mengden, who recently returned from the injured list, allowed 2 runs and struck out 6 over 4 1/3 frames, throwing 80 pitches in the process, while RHP Ben Bracewell struck out 5 in 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory for Vegas. Meanwhile, RHP Parker Dunshee is scheduled to make the start for Las Vegas on Thursday.
