RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in his fourth straight quality start for the RockHounds, but it wasn’t enough to keep Midland from falling to Frisco on Monday. Friedrichs allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, whle striking out 6 over 7 innings of work, and he’s now sporting a 1.93 ERA over his last 4 starts for the RockHounds. RHP John Gorman gave up 3 runs, 1 earned, aided by a fielding error by first baseman Seth Brown, in 2 innings of relief to suffer the loss for Midland. Designated hitter Tyler Ramirez drew a walk and drilled his 5th home run in the 9th, while shortstop Richie Martin had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a pair of runs. Left fielder Brett Siddall singled, doubled and scored a run, and center fielder Skye Bolt singled, walked, stole a base and scored twice in his return to the RockHounds, who finished the first half with a 33-36 record. Meanwhile, RockHounds RHP Corey Walter tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief in his first rehab appearance with the AZL A’s on Monday.

The Sounds scored just two runs as they lost their third straight to Albuquerque on Monday. Third baseman Sheldon Neuse had 2 hits, including a triple, and scored a run, and Neuse has now notched 5 straight multi-hit games for Nashville. Catcher Bruce Maxwell drew a pair of walks and singled in a run in the 6th, while left fielder Matt Joyce went 1 for 3 with a walk in his first rehab game with the Sounds. Starter Ben Bracewell made an early exit when he was ejected after thowing a pitch beind the back of a batter with one out in the 1st inning. RHP Ryan Dull allowed 2 runs in 2 2/3 nnings of relief to suffer the loss, and LHP Ryan Buchter pitched a perfect frame in the 4th inning in his second rehab appearance for the Sounds. Meanwhile, Nashville RHP Kyle Finnegan gave up 3 runs in 1 inning of work in his first rehab appearance with the AZL A’s on Monday.

The AZL A’s won their season opener in extra innings on Monday. 18-year-old Dominican shortstop Yerdel Vargas reached base 3 times, on a single and a pair of walks, and scored the tying run in the bottom of the 9th. This year’s 27th-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Chase Calabuig, walked and singled in the first run in the A’s four-run 9th, while 19-year-old Dominican first baseman Alonzo Medina singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th as the A’s won their season opener in a walk-off on Monday. This year’s 6th-round pick for the A’s, 17-year-old left fielder Lawrence Butler, went 0 for 4 with a walk in his pro debut, while Stockton right fielder Greg Deichmann also went 0 for 4 with a walk in his first rehab game with the AZL A’s. Nashville RHP Kyle Finnegan made the start and gave up 3 runs in 1 inning of work in his first rehab appearance with the A’s, while rehabbing RockHounds RHP Corey Walter tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Richard Jose Morban allowed 3 runs over 5 frames, while this year’s 10th-round pick, RHP Clark Cota, struck out the side in 1 scoreless inning, and last year’s 23rd-round pick, RHP Malik Jones, tossed 2 scoreless innings to pick up the win for the A’s.
