Stockton had its five-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday, but first baseman Edwin Diaz had another big night at the plate for the Ports. The 22-year-old doubled, walked and hit his team-leading 4th home run in Wednesday night’s contest and has now gone 5 for 11 with 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 2 walks over his last 3 games for Stockton. Center fielder Skye Bolt singled, tripled and drove in a run, while shortstop Kevin Merrell, right fielder Luis Barrera and designated hitter Jesus Lage had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Starter Matt Milburn allowed 5 runs over 5 2/3 frames to suffer his 2nd loss, while RHP Brendan Butler gave up 8 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief for Stockton.

The Sounds suffered their third straight defeat and their fifth loss in their last six games on Wednesday. Starter Eric Jokisch surrendered 6 runs, 5 earned, over 6 innings of work to notch his 4th loss, while RHP Josh Lucas allowed 2 runs in 1 inning of relief in his first appearance since returning from the disabled list. Catcher Josh Phegley collected 3 hits, including a triple, while center fielder Dustin Fowler had 2 hits, including a double, to notch his fourth straight multi-hit game for Nashville. And with Sounds starter Brett Anderson promoted to make Wednesday’s start for Oakland, A’s RHP Emilio Pagan was optioned to Nashville.

RHP Norge Ruiz had a rough start for the RockHounds on Wednesday, surrendering 5 runs over 6 2/3 innings to suffer his 2nd loss for Midland. RHP John Gorman gave up 2 runs in 1 1/3 innings, and RHP Trey Cochran-Gill allowed 1 run in 1 inning of relief for the RockHounds. Center fielder Tyler Ramirez tripled in a run, while right fielder Tyler Marincov singled in a run, and first baseman Seth Brown singled and drove in a run on a groundout for Midland.

RHP Wyatt Marks turned in another strong start for the Snappers, striking out 7 over 5 shutout innings, and he left the game with the lead on Wednesday. But RHP Jean Ruiz gave up 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief, while LHP Ty Damron allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, in just 2/3 of an inning, and RHP Heath Bowers hit a batter with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to bring home the winning run and suffer the loss as Fort Wayne won in a walk-off on Wednesday. Center fielder Austin Beck collected a career-high 4 hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, while designated hitter Anthony Churlin had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs as the Snappers lost their fourth straight.
