Stockton shut out Modesto on just four hits on Tuesday night to take back sole possession of first place in the California League North Division as the Ports ran their record to 9-4. Stockton starter Jesus Luzardo led the way, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 9 while throwing 5 hitless and scoreless innings to earn his 2nd win of the season. The 20-year-old has now notched 25 strikeouts in 14 2/3 frames while posting a 1.23 ERA for the Ports. RHP Angel Duno tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Miguel Romero got the final six outs for Stockton to complete the shutout and pick up his 4th save for the Ports. Third baseman Edwin Diaz homered, drew a pair of walks and scored twice, while designated hitter Jonah Heim walked and singled in a run. Shortstop Kevin Merrell singled twice, and second baseman Nate Mondou singled and drove in a pair for the Ports.

RHP Daniel Gossett was solid in his first start of the season for the Sounds, striking out 6 while allowing just 1 hit over 4 shutout innings. Gossett also tossed 4 scoreless frames in his last outing in relief of RHP Trevor Cahill, who threw 7 scoreless innings to earn the win for Oakland on Tuesday night. RHP Kyle Finnegan took over for Gossett in the 5th and gave up 2 runs in just 2/3 of an inning of relief, but RHP Simon Castro struck out 4 in 1 1/3 scoreless frames to earn the win, and RHP Josh Lucas pitched a perfect 9th to notch the save for Nashville. Catcher Beau Taylor had 2 hits, including a double, and drew a walk, while center fielder Dustin Fowler singled, doubled and stole a base, and designated hitter B.J. Boyd drew a walk and doubled in a run to help the Sounds win their fourth straight. Meanwhile, Nashville lost pitchers Trevor Cahill and Lou Trivino when the pair was promoted to Oakland on Tuesday.

Midland shut out Tulsa on six hits on Tuesday. After surrendering 9 earned runs in his last outing, RHP Corey Walter turned in a strong start for the RockHounds, striking out 7 while throwing 7 shutout innings, but he left with the game a scoreless tie. Tucker Healy tossed a scoreless 8th to pick up the win, while RHP J.B. Wendelken got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 3rd save for Midland. Right fielder Tyler Marincov had 2 hits and drove in the RockHounds’ only run in the win.
