On Tuesday, RHP Daniel Mengden allowed just 1 run for the third time in four starts since joining Stockton from the Astros organization in the Scott Kazmir trade. Mengden gave up 1 run on just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6 over 7 innings of work to earn the victory as the Ports won their third straight. RHP Ben Bracewell tossed a scoreless 8th and RHP Corey Walter got the final three outs to post his 3rd save. Catcher Jacob Nottingham walked and scored Stockton’s first run in the 6th and drove in the Ports’ second run with a sacrifice fly in the 8th, while outfielder Tyler Marincov reached base 3 times, on a single and 2 walks, and stole his 12th base for Stockton.

RHP Nate Long turned in a strong start for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings to earn his 3rd win on Tuesday. LHP Sean Doolittle gave up a home run and then struck out 3 in 1 inning of work in his first rehab appearance for Nashville. RHP Ryan Dull tossed a scoreless 8th, then RHP Angel Castro struck out the side in the 9th to notch his 4th save. Outfielder Jake Smolinski smacked his 8th home run in the 4th to break a 1-1 tie, while third baseman Brent Morel doubled in another run in the 6th, and shortstop Andy Parrino singled, doubled and scored a run for the Sounds.

Right fielder Matt Olson kept up his hot hitting for the Hounds on Tuesday, collecting a pair of doubles and a walk while driving in 3 runs, and Olson is now hitting .389 in 10 games in the month of August. First baseman Anthony Aliotti had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and drove in a pair, while outfielder Josh Whitaker, second baseman Wade Kirkland and designated hitter Colin Walsh each singled, doubled and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Sean Manaea allowed 4 runs, just 2 earned, while striking out 6 over 5 2/3 innings of work and left the game with his team down by a run. RHP Andres Avila tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 2nd win, and RHP Ryan Doolittle picked up his 2nd save despite giving up 2 runs in the top of the 9th for Midland.

Outfielder Jose Bennie had another big night at the plate for Beloit, collecting his team-leading 26th double and his 11th home run, his 8th in his last 9 games, while driving in 3 runs for the Snappers. First baseman Max Kuhn also homered and doubled in the game, while third baseman Jose Brizuela hit his 8th home run, and shortstop Mikey White had 3 hits and drove in a run. Starter Joey Wagman allowed 5 runs over 5 1/3 innings of work to pick up his 6th win, while LHP Jose Torres tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to post his 7th save for the Snappers.

The Lake Monsters were shut out on just 1 hit in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Batavia. Center fielder Seth Brown singled for Vermont’s only hit of the game. This year’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Kevin Duchene, allowed 3 runs in 3 innings of work to take his 2nd loss for the Lake Monsters.

The Lake Monsters suffered their second shutout of the day in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Starter Dustin Driver was solid, allowing just 1 unearned run over 5 innings of work but still ended up taking the loss. Vermont managed just 4 hits in the game. Shortstop Jesus Lopez and third baseman Ryan Howell doubled and second baseman Trace Loehr and catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled in the loss.
