Third baseman Ryon Healy had a big night at the plate for the RockHounds on Wednesday, collecting 5 hits, including his 7th home run, while driving in 3 runs to help the Hounds win their fifth straight. And it was the second time this season that Healy’s had a 5-hit game. Second baseman Colin Walsh had 3 hits, including a double, to run his hitting streak to 17 games, while right fielder Matt Olson and designated hitter Rangel Ravelo each singled in a run in the 1st for the RockHounds. Starter Jake Sanchez was solid, allowing just 2 unearned runs while striking out 6 over 6 innings of work to earn his 8th win on Wednesday. RHP Brendan McCurry pitched 2 perfect innings in his first appearance for Midland, and RHP Seth Frankoff picked up his 6th save despite giving up 2 runs in the 9th for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, recently-acquired LHP Sean Manaea has joined the team and should soon be officially added to the RockHounds roster.

Designated Hitter Ryan Roberts

Designated hitter Ryan Roberts doubled in 2 runs to put the Sounds on the board in the bottom of the 7th inning on Wednesday. Then, with two outs, two on and his team down by two runs in the 8th, Roberts singled in third baseman Niuman Romero to bring Nashville with a run. Later in the same inning, Roberts came around to score the winning run when first baseman Nate Freiman singled in a pair for the Sounds. Starter Cody Martin allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 6 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Aaron Kurcz picked up the win despite giving up 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of relief, and RHP Angel Castro got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 2nd save for the Sounds.

Thrid baseman Matt Chapman tripled with two outs in the bottom of the 3rd to drive in catcher Jacob Nottingham and give Stockton an early 1-0 lead on Wednesday. Then, after Modesto tied the game 1-1, Chapman hit his organization-leading 22nd home run in the 6th to give the Ports a 1-run lead, but that would be all the scoring Stockton would do on Wednesday. Starter Dylan Covey was solid in his return from the disabled list, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work, but rehabbing RHP Taylor Thompson gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief to take the loss as Stockton dropped its fourth straight. Meanwhile, catcher Beau Taylor took Covey’s place on the DL and catcher Jose Chavez was activated from the temporarily inactive list on Wednesday.

Starter Brett Graves gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, including 3 home runs, over 4 2/3 innings to take his 5th loss for the Snappers. Catcher Argenis Raga had a pair of doubles and drove in a run, while outfielder James Harris and designated hitter Max Kuhn each singled, walked and drove in a run as the Snappers dropped their fourth straight on Wednesday.

RHP Jon Massad delivered an impressive start for the Lake Monsters on Wednesday, allowing just 2 hits over 6 shutout innings to earn his 3rd victory for Vermont. RHP Derek DeYoung tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and converted catcher Ryan Gorton got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 1st save. This year’s top draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Richie Martin, had 3 hits, including a double, while center fielder Seth Brown singled and doubled, and designated hitter Skye Bolt doubled in the Lake Monsters’ first run of the game in the 2nd.

20-year-old Venezuelan LHP Ivan Andueza turned in a strong start on Wednesday, tossing 4 scoreless and hitless innings while striking out 7 to get things off to a good start for the A’s. And Andueza has now failed to allow an earned run in 11 1/3 innings over his last 3 appearances. RHP Branden Kelliher gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief, while RHP Dustin Hurlbutt tossed 2 scoreless frames, and RHP Brendan Butler gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 10th to take the loss. Outfielder Jhonny Rodriguez had 3 hits and doubled in the A’s only run on Wednesday.
