RHP Parker Frazier, recently acquired from the Arizona organization, allowed just 3 hits over 8 shutout innings to earn the win for the RockHounds on Thursday. And Frazier has now tossed 14 2/3 scoreless innings over his last two starts for Midland. RHP Ryan Doolittle returned from the disabled list to toss a scoreless 9th and complete the 4-hit shutout for the RockHounds. Left fielder Jaycob Brugman had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a run, while center fielder Chad Oberacker singled, doubled, tripled and scored twice. Right fielder Matt Olson slugged his 9th home run, his first since June 20, and second baseman Colin Walsh had a pair of doubles to run his league-leading total to 29.

Starter Zach Neal tossed 7 scoreless innings for the Sounds and left the game with a 1-run lead on Thursday, but veteran LHP Phil Coke was charged with 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss for Nashville. Second baseman Joey Wendle reached base 3 times, on 2 hits and a walk, while left fielder Ryan Roberts had a pair of hits for Nashville, and right fielder Jason Pridie drove in the Sounds’ only run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st. And as a result of Thursday’s trade of pitcher Scott Kazmir to the Astros, Sounds RHP Arnold Leon was recalled by the A’s.

LHP Chris Lamb, who’s been working his way back into a starting role, tossed 4 shutout innings for Stockton and left the game with 1-run lead on Thursday. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1 inning of relief in his first rehab appearance for the Ports, while rehabbing RHP Taylor Thompson gave up 4 runs in just 2/3 of an inning to take the loss for Stockton. The Ports managed 1 run on just 3 hits on Thursday. Outifelder B.J. Boyd singled and scored Stockton’s only run, while catcher Jacob Nottingham, acquired earlier in the day from the Astros in the Scott Kazmir trade, went 1 for 4 in his debut for the Ports. And while Nottingham and RHP Daniel Mengden both joined the Stockton roster as a result of the Kazmir deal, shortstop Franklin Barreto was placed on the disabled list with a wrist injury and RHP Dylan Covey also landed on the DL with a lower leg strain.

RHP Brett Graves had a rough start for the Snappers, allowing 5 runs over 5 innings of work to take his 4th loss on Thursday. Designated hitter Jose Brizuela hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 2nd to bring Beloit within a run, while center fielder James Harris collected a pair of hits and a walk and scored a run, and right fielder Shawn Duinkerk and second baseman Trent Gilbert both singled in runs for the Snappers.

Starter Jon Massad was a little shaky on Thursday, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 2/3 innings to take his 3rd loss for the Lake Monsters, while coverted catcher Ryan Gorton gave up 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief in his Vermont debut. This year’s 13th-round draft pick for the A’s, outfielder Brett Siddall, homered in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game in his first game for the Lake Monsters, while first baseman Seth Brown collected 3 hits, including a double, and center fielder Skye Bolt doubled in a run in the loss.
ARIZONA LEAGUE (Rookie Short-Season)

Designated hitter Jhonny Rodriguez doubled in 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning to give the A’s a lead they would never relinquish on Thursday. Rodriguez also doubled but was left was stranded in the 3rd, while shortstop Edwin Diaz singled, doubled, walked and scored twice for the A’s. Starter Dakota Chalmers tossed 2 shutout innings to start things off right, while LHP Jeff Urlaub, returning from injury, earned the win with 1 scoreless inning in relief. 19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco threw 3 shutout innings, and RHP Brendan Butler picked up his 2nd save despite giving up a run in the 9th for the A’s.
