21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Angel Duno turned in another strong start on Sunday, allowing just 1 hit while walking none and striking out 3 over 5 shutout innings to earn his 2nd win for the A’s. And Duno has now failed to allow a walk while striking out 14 over his first 20 innings this season. 16th-round RHP Dustin Hurlbutt tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, while 30th-round RHP Brendan Butler gave up 2 runs over 1 1/3 innings, and RHP Yordy Alejo got the final two outs in the 9th to notch his 1st save. Rehabbing first baseman Rangel Ravelo went 1 for 3 with a walk and drove in the first 2 runs for the A’s, while outfielder Jhonny Rodriguez singled, tripled and drove in a run, and designated hitter Luis Barrera had 3 hits and scored a run for the A’s.

Acquired from Atlanta on Thursday, RHP Cody Martin made his first start for the Sounds on Sunday and allowed 2 runs over 4 1/3 innings of work to take the loss for Nashville. Left fielder Jake Smolinski singled, doubled, walked, stole a base and scored a run to bring the Sounds within one run in the 7th, while catcher Carson Blair doubled in Smolinski in the 7th, and center fielder Craig Gentry had a pair of hits and swiped a pair of bases in the loss. Meanwhile, first baseman Nate Freiman clear waivers and was outrighted to Nashville.

RHP Tim Atherton had a solid start for the RockHounds on Sunday, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while walking none and striking out 8 over 6 innings of work, but he left the game with his team down by a run. Center fielder Chad Oberacker singled, tripled and scored the tying run on second baseman Colin Walsh’s RBI single in the 7th inning, while first baseman Matt Olson singled, doubled, walked and scored the winning run on left fielder Matt Angle’s RBI single in the 8th, and right fielder Jaycob Brugman had a pair of hits and a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. RHP Ryan Doolittle tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 3rd win, while RHP Seth Frankoff pitched a perfect 9th to post his 3rd save.

RHP Dylan Covey had his second straight shaky start for Stockton on Sunday, allowing 5 runs in 5 innings of work to take his 4th loss, while LHP Victor Veliz, who was just promoted to the Ports, gave up 2 runs in 3 innings of relief in his Stockton debut. Catcher Beau Taylor collected 3 hits in the game, while second baseman Branden Cogswell singled and doubled, and designated hitter Michael Soto doubled and scored Stockton’s only run on Sunday.

Starter Daniel Gossett gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning and then followed that up with 4 scoreless innings on Sunday. He ended up allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3 over 5 innings of work to take his 8th loss for the Snappers. RHPs Rob Huber and Carlos Navas combined to throw 3 scoreless innings in relief. Catcher Iolana Akau hit his 1st home run to put Beloit on the board in the top of the 8th, then was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run in the 9th. Second baseman Trent Gilbert doubled with two outs but was left stranded in the 3rd, and third baseman Jose Brizuela had a pair of hits in the Snappers’ second straight loss.

The 7th-round draft pick for the A’s this year, RHP Kyle Friedrichs, kicked off a 3-hit shutout for Vermont by allowing no hits over the first 3 innings on Sunday. And Friedrichs has now allowed just 1 hit over his first 6 innings of work for the Lake Monsters. LHP Kevin Ferreras followed up with another 3 shutout innings to earn his 1st win, while LHP Tyler Painton contributed the final three scoreless frames to post his 2nd save. The A’s top draft pick, shortstop Richie Martin, collected 3 hits, including a triple, and is now 10 for 19 and batting .526 over his first 4 games for Vermont, while 10th-round center fielder Steven Pallares doubled and drove in 3 runs, and 19th-round left fielder Seth Brown had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Lake Monsters.
