With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the 1st inning, catcher Beau Taylor came to the plate and slugged a grand slam to give Stockton an early 4-0 lead on Friday. Taylor also doubled and scored in the 6th, while right fielder Tyler Marincov had a pair of singles and hit his 8th home run, a 2-run shot, in the 2nd. Left fielder B.J. Boyd tripled in 2 runs in the 3rd, and shortstop Franklin Barreto, first baseman John Nogowski and designated hitter Melvin Mercedes each had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Ports. Starter Kyle Finnegan was solid, allowing 2 runs while striking out 7 over 5 1/3 innings to earn his 5th win for Stockton.

Starter Chris Bassitt was impressive over 5 shutout innings on Friday, allowing just 2 hits and walking 1 while striking out 8, and he left the game with a 1-run lead after a 90-minute rain delay. RHP Dan Otero pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, but RHP Ryan Cook gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to surrender the lead. Cook ended up earning the win though when the Sounds came back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Center fielder Craig Gentry doubled in the 3rd and singled and scored the tying run in the 9th, while second baseman Joey Wendle drove in the Sounds’ first run in the 3rd on a sacrifice fly and then singled and scored the winning run in the 9th on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Shortstop Andy Parrino went 1 for 4 in his return to Nashville, while utilityman Alden Carrithers was placed on the disabled list for the Sounds.

RHP Jake Sanchez turned in his second straight strong start for the RockHounds, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits over 8 innings of work to earn his 5th win, while RHP Ryan Dull tossed a scoreless 9th to close things out on Friday. Outfielder Josh Whitaker hit a 2-run homer in the 4th to give the Hounds the lead, while shortstop Chad Pinder had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and drove in a pair of runs to extend his team-leading RBI total to 40.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

RHP Junior Mendez allowed just 1 earned run for his second straight start but still ended up taking his 6th loss for the Snappers on Friday. Mendez allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 innings of work, while RHP Koby Gauna tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief. But the Snappers were shut out on just 4 hits on Friday. Designated hitter Trent Gilbert singled and walked in the loss.

 

NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE  (Class-A Short-Season)

This year’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Mikey White, had 3 hits on Friday, including a pair of doubles, one of which drove in the winning run in the top of the 5th for the Lake Monsters. 10th-round left fielder Steven Pallares drove in a run in the 1st on a sacrifice fly and singled and scored in the 5th, while 4th-round center fielder Skye Bolt tripled and scored in the 1st and drove in a run in the 9th on a sacrifice fly. Starter Kevin Ferreras allowed 1 run over 4 innings of work, while RHP Lee Sosa tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, and LHP Tyler Painton pitched 2 perfect innings to pick up his 1st save.
