Left fielder Colby Thomas and second baseman Cooper Bowman both hit key home runs to help the RockHounds record their fifth straight win on Thursday. With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning, Thomas stepped to the plate and slugged a solo shot to center field to provide the margin of victory for Midland. Thomas also singled and doubled in the game and, with shortstop Jacob Wilson’s promotion to Las Vegas, Thomas’s 34 hits, 7 home runs, 18 RBI, .571 slugging percentage and .923 OPS are now all tops among current RockHounds hitters. Cooper Bowman singled, walked, stole a base and, most importantly, tagged a two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, while catcher Daniel Susac had 3 hits, drew a walk, drove in a run and stole a base for Midland. Starter Blake Beers allowed 4 runs in 6 innings of work, while RHP Shohei Tomioka picked up the win after notching the final out in the top of the 7th, and RHPs Grant Holman and Pedro Santos each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief to close out the win for the RockHounds. In addition to Wilson, Midland pitchers Brady Basso and J.T. Ginn were also promoted to Las Vegas on Wednesday, while Lansing LHP James Gonzalez was reassigned to the RockHounds.
