On a night when there were few highlights to be found for A’s affiliates, Las Vegas left fielder Cal Stevenson turned in the top performance among A’s minor leaguers who took the field on Wednesday. The 26-year-old, who was acquired from Tampa Bay last summer in the Christian Bethancourt trade, singled, doubled, drew a walk, stole a base and scored twice as Las Vegas suffered its ninth loss in its first 11 games of the season. And Stevenson is now batting .421 while boasting an on-base percentage of .560. In his first game of the season after returning from the injured list, second baseman Zack Gelof singled, doubled and drew a walk, while right fielder Cody Thomas doubled, walked and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Center fielder JJ Bleday doubled, drew a walk and scored a run, and first baseman Kevin Cron went 0 for 5 in his first game of the season after being activated earlier in the day. A’s RHP Drew Rucinski allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 2 innings of work to suffer the loss in his first rehab start for Las Vegas. RHP Parker Dunshee, who was activated before the game, gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Colin Peluse permitted 2 runs in 4 innings of work, and RHP Bryce Conley closed things out by tossing 2 scoreless frames in the loss. Meanwhile, Las Vegas RHP Chad Smith was recalled by the A’s on Wednesday. RHP Mason Miller was reassigned from the RockHounds to the Aviators and is expected to make his first start for the team on Friday, while RHP Luis Medina was placed on the temporarily inactive list due to a family matter, and Las Vegas LHP Jake Fishman landed on the injured list on Tuesday.
