Catcher Carlos Perez hit a pair of home runs to help Las Vegas secure its second straight victory over El Paso on Friday. The 30-year-old backstop slugged a solo shot in the 3rd inning to give Las Vegas the lead and then belted a two-run blast in the 5th to extend the Aviators’ lead to three. And Perez has now hit 8 home runs and driven in 21 runs while hitting .382 through 13 games in July. Right fielder Greg Deichmann doubled, walked twice, scored twice, drove in a pair of runs and stole a base, while center fielder Cody Thomas singled, doubled and drove in a run, and left fielder Marty Bechina doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the Aviators. RHP Homer Bailey made his first start for Las Vegas on Friday and gave up 2 runs over 4 frames, while tandem starter Brian Howard allowed 1 run in 3 innings of work, and RHP James Naile notched the final two outs in the top of the 8th to pick up the victory for the Aviators.
