Right fielder Greg Deichmann had a big night at the plate to help the RockHounds register the win and take a 2-0 lead over Amarillo in their best-of-five playoff series on Thursday. After posting a pair of hits in Wednesday’s win, Deichmann pounded a pair of home runs in Thursday’s match, slugging a solo shot in the 4th inning and then belting a two-run blast in the 6th. Left fielder Brallan Perez singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in a strong start, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn the win, while LHP Tyler Alexander tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Jesus Zambrano got the final four outs to record the save for the RockHounds. Meanwhile, RHP Brian Howard is scheduled to make the start when the series moves to Midland on Friday.

Despite hitting four home runs, Las Vegas lost to Sacramento to even up their best-of-five series 1-1 on Thursday. Starter Parker Dunshee surrendered 5 runs and struck out 6 in just 3 1/3 innings of work, while RHP Tanner Anderson gave up 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss, and RHP Matt Harvey allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief for the Aviators. Right fielder Skye Bolt hit a two-run homer in the top of the 5th to put Vegas on the board, while center fielder Dustin Fowler slugged a solo shot to lead off the 6th. Designated hitter Cameron Rupp also homered in the 6th, belting a two-run blast to temporarily tie the game and, with his team down by three runs, second baseman Mikey White socked a solo shot in the top of the 9th, but it wouldn’t be enough to keep Las Vegas from suffering the loss on Thursday. And with RHP J.B. Wendelken set to rejoin the A’s bullpen on Friday, RHP Trey McNutt was added to the Aviators roster on Thursday. Meanwhile, LHP Jesus Luzardo is set to make the start when the series moves to Las Vegas on Friday.
