One day after clinching the division title and a playoff berth, the Aviators finished their regular season schedule by notching a one-run victory over Tacoma on Monday. Shortstop Jorge Mateo led the way, doubling and scoring a run in the 3rd inning and then homering with two outs in the 5th inning to provide what would prove to be the winning run for Las Vegas. Mateo finished the regular season with a total of 62 extra-base hits, 29 doubles, 14 triples and 19 home runs. His 14 triples led the league while his 24 stolen bases led the team. This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, left fielder Alfonso Rivas, who was recently promoted from the Ports, singled, tripled and drove in a run, while center fielder Mark Payton singled, walked and scored a run to finish the season with the second-best OPS in the PCL at 1.053. RHP Jharel Cotton made his first start for Las Vegas this season and allowed 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2 while throwing 3 scoreless innings. RHP Trey McNutt allowed 1 run in 2 innings of relief and picked up the win, while RHP Miguel Romero tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 3rd save for the Aviators. Las Vegas finished the season with the second-best record in the 16-team PCL at 83-57 and is now set to face the Sacramento River Cats in a five-game playoff series starting on Wednesday.

The RockHounds finished the regular season by recording their fourth straight win over Springfield on Monday. Catcher Collin Theroux singled and slugged a three-run homer, while first baseman Chase Calabuig singled, doubled, drew a walk and scored 3 runs for the RockHounds. Reliever John Gorman made his first start of the season and gave up 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Wandisson Charles tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win for Midland. The RockHounds finished the season as the second-half division winner in the Texas League South with a regular season record of 73-66 and are now set to take on the Amarillo Sod Poodles in a five-game playoff series starting on Wednesday.

Stockton suffered its second straight loss to San Jose on Monday to close out its season. Starter Xavier Altamirano was charged with 6 runs, 3 earned, over 4 2/3 frames to take the loss, while catcher Robert Mullen singled twice and walked for Stockton. The Ports finished the 2019 season with the second-worst record in the 8-team California League at 60-78.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

The Snappers finished off the season by suffering their third straight loss to Cedar Rapids on Monday. Starter Bryce Nightengale gave up 5 runs over 4 2/3 frames to take the loss, while RHP Joe DeMers allowed 3 runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief for Beloit. Second baseman Joseph Pena singled, tripled, walked twice and scored a run, while left fielder Anthony Churlin notched a pair of doubles for the Snappers in the loss. Beloit finished the season with a record of 54-84.

 

NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE  (Class-A Short-Season)

Vermont’s final game of the season was cancelled due to rain on Monday. The Lake Monsters finished the season with a record of 33-42.
