The Lake Monsters snapped their seven-game losing streak on Saturday. Last year’s 6th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Lawrence Butler, led the way. The 18-year-old collected 4 hits, including a three-run homer, for Vermont. This year’s 29th-round draft pick, second baseman Michael Woodworth, had 4 hits, including a double, and drove in 3 runs, while 19-year-old Dominican center fielder Kevin Richards singled, doubled twice and drove in 4, and 19-year-old Dominican shortstop Yerdel Vargas singled twice, walked twice and scored 4 runs for the Lake Monsters. 19-year-old Puerto Rican RHP Osvaldo Berrios made the start and surrendered 6 runs in 3 1/3 innings of work in his debut for Vermont. 21-year-old Panamanian RHP Carlos Sanchez picked up the win despite giving up 3 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief, while 23-year-old Panamanian LHP Jorge Martinez got the final three outs in the 9th to notch the save for the Lake Monsters.

The RockHounds were shut out on just four hits on Saturday. Starter Kyle Friedrichs allowed 6 runs, 5 earned, over 5 1/3 frames to suffer the loss, while this year’s 33rd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Charles Hall, surrendered a grand slam in the 8th inning in his Texas League debut. Third baseman Nate Mondou reached base twice, on a single and a walk, while second baseman Kevin Merrell singled and stole a base, and shortstop Edwin Diaz doubled for the RockHounds’ only extra-base hit in the loss.

The Snappers suffered their fourth loss in their last five games on Saturday. RHP Reid Birlingmair turned in a strong start, allowing 2 unearned runs on just 4 hits while striking out 7 in 6 innings of work, but LHP Josh Reagan was charged with 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Shortstop Max Schuemann singled, walked, homered and tallied his team-leading 7th stolen base, while third baseman Cobie Vance doubled and drew a pair of walks, and center fielder Devin Foyle singled, tripled and drove in a run for the Snappers in the loss. Meanwhile, RHP Calvin Coker was reassigned to the Snappers on Saturday.

This year’s 35th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Zach Rafuse, was solid in relief, pitching 3 perfect innings for the A’s, but this year’s 37th-round pick, RHP Chase Wheatcroft, gave up 3 runs in 1 inning of relief to suffer the loss on Saturday. Second baseman Matt McGarry, the Yankees’ 34th-round draft pick last year who was recently signed by the A’s, singled twice and drove in a run for the A’s in the loss.
